What to expect in your first session

I understand that starting therapy for the first time, or with a new counsellor, can cause some anxiety so here is what to expect the first time you come.

  • The first session is very much about information gathering. Together we will fill in a questionnaire which will help us get to know you.

  • You will also gain a more in-depth understanding of what counselling is and the confidentiality that you can expect.

  • We will have a counsellor-client business contract which we will review regularly.

  • If you have any questions, you can fire away. Don’t hesitate!

Fees

My fees are £60 for a 60 minute session.  However, I have some spaces available at a reduced rate for students or those facing financial hardship.

I accept payment by cash, bank transfer or cheque at the end of each session.

Partners of people on the ASD spectrum

Are you in a relationship with someone who might be or is on the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) spectrum?

Being the partner of an individual with ASD has its own unique set of challenges. You might feel like you have no voice. No one wants to hear your side of the story or realises how difficult it is for you to live with someone who struggles with empathy.

The bottom line is that relationships between a neurotypical individual and an individual with ASD can be tough - and this isn’t anyone’s fault. When we recognise that both people on the spectrum and neurotypical people are born with their own unique and wonderful, yet very different, styles of brain organisation, it becomes clear that we cannot rely on specific blame to explain any issues that arise.

My aim is to help you better understand the inner workings of your partner's mind so that you can gain perspective in order to clarify what is best for you in your relationship.

...Perhaps you want to stay in your relationship but you want to know how to make it work.

...Perhaps you don’t know what you want or feel anymore.

...Perhaps you have decided you want to leave.

...And even if you don’t know any of the above, perhaps you would just like someone to talk to about your feelings in a space of complete understanding and zero judgement.
